Thank you for your interest in our Child Life internship. We believe that interns must practice what they have learned, through formal and informal learning, hands-on clinical practice and collaboration with peers.

Program information

• We offer comprehensive internship training three times a year beginning in January, May and September.
• The Child Life internship is a 15 week, full-time experience (40 hours/week).
  • Students will obtain a total of 600 hours of clinical experience.
  • Students are expected to be available for internship during regular business hours.
• Students must complete a minimum of two rotations.

Program requirements

• Students must complete a variety of program assignments, not limited to the following:
  • Daily reflection
  • Completion of weekly modules and in-services
  • Participation in weekly discussions related to a variety of Child Life text books, articles, and resources
  • Completion of a diagnosis assignment
  • Completion of patient treatment plans
  • Volunteer presentation
  • Full-admission assignment
  • Activity plans

Applicant requirements

• College seniors or graduates
• Must have relevant volunteer or work experience interacting with typically developing children in group settings
• Must have completed a minimum of 150 hours in a Child Life practicum
  • Paid work experience in an established Child Life program will be considered in lieu of practicum participation.
• GPA of 3.0 or above
• Validation of coursework
  • Child Life Council coursework review
  • Completed Child Life Course Verification form or proof of registration in a course
• Applicants are required to have a strong academic background in child development

Application information

• Consideration for internship requires the submission of a completed application
  • We utilize the Child Life Council common internship application
  • There are additional requirements specific to our student program outlined in our Child Life internship application packet
  • Complete the top portion of three Letters of Reference and forward them to your selected references.  Have them return the letter directly to Cook Children's.
• Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered
• Submitting a completed application does not guarantee a student an interview or placement
• To confirm receipt of your application, use an expedited, traceable mail service or the postal service's delivery confirmation.
