We are excited to communicate with you about Cook Children's practicum experience. This program provides students an opportunity to become more familiar with the field of Child Life and the needs of hospitalized children and youth. The following is information about this program.
Applicant Requirements
- Sophomore level in college or beyond
- Must have a minimum of 100 hours of experience interacting with children, beyond required experiences for coursework
- Experience in an established Child Life program is preferred
- GPA of 3.0 or above
Application Information:
- Consideration for practicum requires the submission of a completed application
- Late and/or incomplete applications will not be considered
- Submitting a completed application does not guarantee a student an interview or placement
- To confirm receipt of your application, use an expedited, traceable mail service or the postal service's delivery confirmation
Program Information and Requirements
- We offer comprehensive practicum training three times a year beginning in January, May and September.
- Students will participate for 13 weeks
- Students will complete a minimum of two rotations
- Students must complete the following program assignments:
- Daily reflection
- Completion of Psychosocial Care of Children in Hospitals
- Participation in weekly discussion groups related to text book and other topics
- Minimum of 4 supplemental observations
- Activity plans
- Developmental responses observation and paper
- Diagnosis assignment
- Patient treatment plan
- Reflective "wrap-up" paper

- Cook Children's practicum students will no longer be accepted as Cook Children's internship students, beginning with the semester starting in January 2012
