At Cook Children's, we do it all for kids. We take the time to listen to you and your child, answer questions and help you navigate parenthood. Cook Children's Genetics offers evaluation and diagnosis of genetic disorders, as well as assists families with referrals to community resource services. Our goal is to get you and your kids on the path to leading happier and healthier lives!

Our services

Genetic tests are done by analyzing small samples of blood or body tissues. They determine whether you, your partner, or your baby carry genes for certain inherited disorders.

  • Gathering relevant birth, medical and developmental history of the patient, including their detailed family history.
  • Clinical evaluation by a board certified geneticist.
  • Relevant diagnostic testing.
  • Detailed explanation of the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment options.
  • Discussion of reproductive and recurrence risks.
  • Psychosocial support.
  • Referral to appropriate medical specialists and community resources.
  • Communication with the patient’s primary care physician and related specialists.

Office hours and appointments

  • Patients are seen between 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday.
  • Office visits are by appointment only.
  • Please call as soon as possible if you must cancel or reschedule your appointment.
  • Our office is closed most holidays, including New Year's Day, July Fourth, Thanksgiving and Christmas.
  • A referral may be required in order to schedule an appointment. Please speak with your family physician or insurance company

Fees, payments and insurance

  • Fees, insurance co-payment and deductibles are due at each visit.
  • Please bring insurance identification to every appointment.
  • Let us know when there are changes in insurance coverage, address, employment or phone numbers.

Cook Children's specialty care services

At Cook Children's, we provide more than 60 pediatric medical and specialty clinic offices throughout Texas.

Referrals

  • Referrals may be made by your doctor.
  • If you are a member of a managed care plan (HMO), a referral form is required for treatment by a specialist. Allow five to seven working days for the referral to be completed and mailed.
