Dr. Burgess earned her undergraduate degree from Baylor University in 1989. She went on to Baylor College of Medicine, in Houston, Texas, where she graduated in 1993 in the top 25% of her class. She completed her pediatric residency training at Baylor College of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital in 1996.

After residency, Dr. Burgess began private practice with Texas Children's Pediatric Associates in Sugar Land, TX. In 1998 she moved to the Dallas area and joined Cook Children's Physicians Network, becoming the founding partner of the Flower Mound CCPN office. She is Board Certified by the American Board of Pediatrics and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Dr. Burgess met her husband in Houston, and they married in 1994. They have three children. She loves to spend time with her family, and enjoys scrapbooking, step aerobics, and church activities. They have been members of First Baptist Church in Flower Mound since 1999. Dr. Burgess has also been a member of the Flower Mound Rotary Club since 2000.
