I was born and raised in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  I attended the University of Alabama and received a bachelor of arts in English Literature.  I then received my doctor of medicine degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama.  I then moved to Rochester, Minnesota to complete my residency in general surgery.  There I met my beautiful wife, Jana, and we married soon after.  We moved to Columbus, Ohio for one year where I received training in surgical critical care of children at Nationwide Children's Hospital and subsequently moved to Long Island, New York for my two years of training in pediatric surgery.  While on Long Island my son Jackson was born and we are currently expecting our second son soon.  My parents, younger brother, and almost all of my extended family still reside in Alabama.  My wife's family all reside in Wisconsin.  I enjoy playing with my son, outdoor activities, golf, and Alabama football.
