Camp Summit
Camp Summit offers every special-needs child the opportunity to experience the joy of camp. Campers are never turned away due to physical, mental, emotional, or financial ability.
In fact, Camp Summit is one of only a few camps in the country to accept campers without regard to severity of their disability. Financial assistance is available through a sliding scale fee structure and a partial and full scholarship program.
Camp Summit offers weeklong camp sessions during the summer and fall months and spring break and weekend sessions and respite days in the fall and spring seasons. Summer camps for kids and teens are typically held in July and early August.
Camp Summit objectives
As the name implies, the goal of Camp Summit is to help campers with disabilities reach their own personal peak by providing recreational, therapeutic and social activities in an authentically natural camp setting. The benefits of the camping program are endless! Campers are encouraged to try new experiences in order to gain self-confidence, increase personal independence and learn cooperation.
Camp staffing
Camp Summit offers a 2:1 ratio of campers to counselors, with special one-to-one assistance when needed.
Medical care
On-site medical personnel, including registered nurses and a physician-on-call, are available to ensure the safety and wellbeing of campers.
Camper selection
Camp Summit is a residential camp and offers a variety of camping options. Campers are selected on a first-come, first-served basis. Because this is a very popular camp, sessions fill rapidly. It is recommended that applications for camp be made as soon as possible.
What do we do at camp?
Camp Summit is located in Argyle, Texas, just north of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex on 117 acres of land. Campers are offered a wide variety of traditional camp activities in our barrier-free environment which includes:
- A specially designed swimming pool
- Adapted tree house
- Horseback riding
- Adapted ropes challenge course
- Sensory garden
- Lodge with fireplace
- Fishing pond
- Camp sites
- Outdoor chapel
- Singing, dancing, games and other fun activities
