Why pediatric neuroscience services?

When a child is born, their brain comes with all the neurons it will ever have, but many of the neurons are not connected to each other. As a child begins to learn things, the messages travel from one neuron to another, over and over. This starts to create connections (or pathways) between the brain and the neurons. As a child continues to grow and develop they learn more things, and as the pathways develop, those things become easier and can be done better. Because children are constantly growing and experiencing new things, their development occurs at hyper speed. A doctor who specializes in pediatric neurosciences understands a child’s development from birth into young adulthood and is specially trained in what to look for and how to prevent and treat neurological conditions both in the short-term and, if need be, long-term. Here at Cook Children’s, our pediatric specialists have many unique medical talents, but one goal: to help your child achieve the best quality of life they are capable of.
