Your patient liaison
There's so much to do when your child is ill. You have medical decisions to make, appointments to keep, and you're often fielding calls and emails from concerned family and friends. All while trying to navigate a medical system. We don't think you should have to go through this alone, so our patient liaison is here to help.
To make your journey a bit easier, our patient liaison can assist you with:
- Resolving operational concerns, such as admission or discharge procedures and scheduling conflicts.
- Navigating through the health care system.
- Assisting with services provided by the medical center.
- Organizing patient care conferences.
- Facilitating access to care.
- Helping with legal documentation and protection of patient rights
- Forwarding compliments to designated management.
We can also help with any concerns you may have regarding standard of care or medical center personnel.
More than medical know-how
Cook Children’s is committed to ensuring that our patients and families have access to support and comfort. Our patient liaison will happily direct you to the resource library where you can find the most accurate information about your child’s condition and available treatment options. We can also arrange for you to speak with a social worker who can help you evaluate your financial needs.
For families who are traveling to Cook Children’s from far away, our website provides information on nearby accommodations, places to eat, shop and spend time with your family. Spending time away from the medical center, even for a few hours, can help to relieve stress and give everyone a much needed break, so we offer concierge services to help you with making recreational and vacation arrangements, including those that can accommodate your child when possible.
Support groups, parent mentors, and camps for kids and families are also available. We’ll gladly provide you with information so you and your family members can connect with others who understand what you’re going through. We even offer a program where a Child Life specialist will visit the patient’s school and educate both school staff and students about what a patient’s condition means—and doesn’t mean.
