Meet our pediatricians
At Cook Children's, taking care of kids means including the whole family. We take the time to listen to you and your child, answer questions and help you navigate parenthood.
Our doctors are specialists in the health care of infants, children and adolescents. Our team includes board certified pediatricians that, together with you, will get your kids on the path to leading happy and healthy lives.
Lanna McClain, M.D.
I've been a pediatrician since 1996, first in Sherman, and now with Cook Children's Physician Network in Burleson. I grew up in Odessa, Texas and obtained both my graduate as well as my medical degree from Texas A&M University (Whoop!). I performed my pediatrics residency training at Arkansas Children's Hospital in Little Rock, AR. I have a husband, and 2 children (ages 12 and 14). The best part of practicing pediatrics is seeing a child grow from an infant to adult, and impacting that life positively. Outside of the office, I enjoy being with family at home, attending church activities as well as sporting events with my children.
Carla Browning Smith, D.O.
Dr. Smith is a native Texan but left Texas to complete her pediatric residency and begin private practice in Michigan. After 16 years in Michigan, she and her family returned to Texas and have been active in the Burleson community for the past 18 years. Dr. Smith currently resides as a board member for the Children’s Advocacy Center of Johnson County. She has been a physician for Cook Children’s for many years but is so happy to be in the clinic that is located in Burleson since it opened in 2010. Dr. Smith has been a pediatrician for 32 years but states that she continues to feel honored to care for each child and be involved with each family.
When not at the clinic, Dr. Smith enjoys spending time with her family, on their farm, and traveling back to visit friends in Michigan.
Deborah Vert, D.O.
Dr. Deborah Vert joined the Cook Children’s Burleson practice in 2011 after having practiced for 12 years at the Woodway location in Ft. Worth. Dr. Vert was born in Virginia and raised outside of the Austin area. She did her undergraduate work at Texas A&M University (Gig ‘em!) and did her medical school education at University of North Texas Health Sciences Center (TCOM). During her final year of pediatric residency at Scott & White Memorial Hospital Dr. Vert served as Chief Resident.
After completing her pediatric training Dr. Vert knew she wanted to raise a family in the Ft. Worth area and joined UNTSHC as an associate professor where she taught pediatrics and saw patients. Missing the close interactions with patients and their families she joined Cook Children’s in 1999 where she has loved watching her patients grow up (and many returning with their own children!).
Dr. Vert loves spending time with her children, traveling, reading and watching sporting events – including NASCAR. She has served on committees at Cook Children’s and now serves on the Board of Directors.
