Today's school nurse in the primary and secondary schools faces many unique challenges.
As part of our promise to improve the health of every child in our region, Cook Children's is pleased to partner with school nurses. It is our hope that together we can meet the region's growing pediatric health needs. Below you will find health resources and information to help you meet your everyday challenges.
Continuing Education
Cook Children's offers summer workshops and ongoing webcasts specifically for the school nurse. In addition, school nurses are welcomed and encouraged to attend any of our professional events. We also offer community courses to meet the needs of children in our region. To learn more about all Cook Children's is doing to improve child health in our region, go to The Center for Children's Health website.
School Nurse Resources
The school nurse's office can be a hectic place. Quick access to useful references can help school nurses provide appropriate and expedient care. Cook Children's is providing these references to assist school nurses in the care of children. To access these resources, go to School Nurse Resources.
Student and Family Resources
Families in need don't always know where to go for available non-emergency health and human services in their community. School nurses play a key role in helping students and families find and access community resources. Cook Children's is pleased to provide you with documents and websites to assist you in that role. Go to Student and Family Resources.
School Nurse Advisory Council
The Cook Children's School Nurse Advisory Council was created in collaboration with area school health providers to improve the health of every child in our region through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease, and injury.
Council goals:
- Identify and improve educational gaps for school nurses through the development of targeted educational activities and onlines resources

- Provide updates on community resources in areas such as injury prevention, oral health, mental health, and immunizaitons.
