American Heart Association courses

The Education Department at Cook Children’s offers a variety of American Heart Association courses to meet the needs of health care professionals and the community.  Professionals can become certified or renew their certification in Basic Life Support or Pediatric Advanced Life Support.  Lay rescuers in the workplace or in the community may achieve American Heart Association certification or simply improve their skills through Heartsaver CPR, Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid, or CPR for Family and Friends.

Whatever your position or need, Cook Children’s offers a course for you.  To view more information, dates, or to register for any of the events listed below, click the name of the event in the left column.  Cook Children’s employees should go to Employee Education to register through CHEX.

CourseDescription
BLS (CPR) for Healthcare ProvidersThe BLS for Healthcare Provider course teaches the skills of adult, child, and infant CPR.
BLS (CPR) for Healthcare Providers RenewalThis course allows individuals who are nearing the end of their two-year American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers certification to renew their certificate.
CPR for Family and FriendsCPR for Family and Friends is an introduction to adult, child, and infant CPR. Participants do not receive a certification card.
Heartsaver CPRThe Heartsaver CPR course is designed to teach CPR and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction to lay rescuers, particularly those who are expected to respond to emergencies in the workplace.
Heartsaver Pediatric First AidThe Heartsaver Pediatric First Aid course teaches the skills necessary to provide CPR and first aid for children. Adult CPR and AED are included.
PALS ProviderThe Pediatric Advanced Life Support course teaches health care professionals how to rapidly assess and begin treatment of critically ill children.
PALS RenewalThe Pediatric Advanced Life Support Renewal course will refresh providers' skills and provide an update on American Heart Association recommendations.
