Professional CoursesCook Children's fosters continued growth of great physicians, nurses and other health care professionals through continuing education on a variety of health care topics.

Educational events, such as weekly pediatric Grand Rounds and specialty conferences, offer health care professionals opportunities to learn from experts in pediatric health care and receive continuing education at the same time.

Our professional education programs also offer certification and recertification courses in all American Heart Association courses such as Basic Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support. We also offer certification courses for trauma nurses, emergency nurses, and chemotherapy providers.

Grand Rounds video library

Through our Grand Rounds video library, Cook Children's provides busy health care professionals an opportunity to receive current information on a variety of health care topics when and where it is convenient. These informational offerings are recorded from the Tuesday Grand Rounds and provide all heath care professionals an opportunity to learn from experts in pediatric health care.

2014 CHAT Pediatric Nursing Conference- Let's CHAT: Byte-sized topicsThe 21st annual CHAT Pediatric Nursing Conference theme of Let's CHAT: Byte-sized topics focuses on the critical role of innovative technology in the health care environment as it pertains to nursing care for pediatric patients.
Certified Pediatric Nurse (CPN) Prep CourseThis course helps prepare qualified nurses for the PNCB's Certified Pediatric Nurse examination. Interactive presentations include growth and development, systems reviews, common disease processes, and test-taking strategies.
Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider CourseThis two-day course includes a comprehensive curriculum designed to provide nurses with the knowledge base needed to safely care for children and adolescents receiving chemotherapy. Participants must bring a copy of their RN license number.
CPHON Preparation CourseThe course prepares Hematology/Oncology nurses for successful testing of the Certified Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Nurses (CPHON) exam.
Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC)This course teaches participants to recognize the ill or injured child and identify significant yet subtle changes in the less acute child. This is a two-day course.
Grand Rounds - Changing Paradigms in Infant and Children DeathsTasha Greenberg, MD, will discuss child abuse forensic pathology and clinical correlation.  Learning Objecitves: Discuss evolving concepts in SIDS/SUDI, injuries and child abuse.
Grand Rounds - Cognitive, Behavioral and Emotional Effects of Concussion in Children and AdolescentsDr. Morton will address the cognitive, emotional and behavioral effects of concussions from a neuropsychologist's perspective.  Learning Objecitves: Explain typical and atypical recovery patterns following concussion.
Grand Rounds - Concussion ManagementDr. Blueitt will provide an in-depth look at concussions in school-aged patients, including concussion management and appropriate return to play protocol.  Learning Objecitves: Explain the neuropathology of concussions.
HeartCode ACLS ProviderAdvanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) is higher-level course that emphasizes the significance of basic life support (BLS), highlights team dynamics, communication, systems of care, and immediate post-cardiac-arrest care.
HeartCode BLS Healthcare ProviderBasic Life Support (BLS) is designed to provide a wide variety of healthcare professionals the ability to recognize severe life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner.
HeartCode PALS (Part 1 and 2)Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an advanced course using a scenario-based, team approach to teach pediatric emergency respiratory management, recognition and treatment of shock and/or cardiac arrest.
HeartCode PALS Part 2 Skills Session ONLYCompletion of AHA PALS Part 1 (online course) is mandatory before taking Part 2 (skills check-off), and you must take Part 2 within 60 days of completing Part 1. Keep this in mind as you register for a Part 2 Skills Session.

SOS Feeding - Advanced Topic WorkshopsThe advanced topics include Feeding the Child on the Autism Spectrum and Feeding the 6-16 Month Old Child. Previous attendance at Day 1-3 required.
Stem Cell Transplant WorkshopThis workshop educates nurses on these topics related to stem cell transplants. Objectives: Define stem cell transplant, types of transplants and diseases treated by transplant.
