Cards For Kids: A Project Of The Woman’s Board Of Cook Children’s Medical Center

The Woman’s Board of Cook Children’s began as a volunteer organization in 1918 with a mission to help support the needs of the medical center. For the past 43 years, the Woman’s Board has worked to develop Cards for Kids into a vital fund raising source. Funds raised through Cards for Kids have helped fund critical medical equipment, an ambulance, a playscape, a playground and many other items that enhance the medical center’s child-friendly environment.

“The Woman’s Board is manned entirely by hard working volunteers,” said Jude Dainton, president of the Woman’s Board. “The funds generated from both Cards for Kids and the Enchanted Castle Gift Shop have totaled well over $1 million.” Many of the Woman’s Board members volunteer in the medical center’s gift shop, as well as patient care areas.

Over the years, designs created by child artists for Cards for Kids have changed, but the goal of making life better for patients at Cook Children’s remains the same. Generous corporate donations help underwrite Cards for Kids to cut down on the costs associated with production, allowing proceeds from the sale of the cards to go directly to the medical center.
