At Cook Children's, we know that diagnosing and treating head injuries in children and teens requires special skills, and that's what sets us apart.

The Cook Children's Sports Physical Therapy team are experts in concussion rehabilitation and are well trained in the unique needs of evaluating and treating children and adolescents who have impairments or complications after suffering a concussion.

What is a concussion?

A concussion is a brain injury that causes temporary changes in the way the brain works. You might think they happen when someone is knocked unconscious while playing sports. But concussions can happen without losing consciousness as well.

Some of the more common concussion symptoms we see include:

  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Dizziness
  • Problems with balance
  • Forgetfulness
  • Difficulty concentrating
  • Problems with vision

Why Cook Children's Sports Physical Therapy?

While most concussions heal on their own, a concussion is still a brain injury. Returning to play too soon, or having another injury before the concussion heals can result in long-term damage to the brain.

Even the slightest brain injury can impact your child's behavior, memory, and ability to focus or learn. At Cook Children's, our goal to help your child or teen fully recover so they can safely return to school, sports, or other activities.
