Meet Dr. Hari Kumaresan

Dr. Kumaresan grew up in South India where he completed his medical school. He was drawn to Medicine being around his father, a renowned Child Neurologist. He moved to the U.S. in 2001 and completed his General Psychiatry residency at SUNY (State University of New York) Upstate Medical University, Syracuse. He followed up with Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship training at University of Medicine and Dentistry, Piscataway, NJ.

Dr. K, as he is known to his patients and staff, has worked with the most vulnerable families in community mental health systems in Staunton, VA and in Dallas, TX. He believes in learning by sharing life experiences. He has shared his clinical knowledge as a mentor to Residents and Fellows in Child Psychiatry at the University of Virginia and at the University of Texas Southwestern in their clinical rotations and with Medical Students at University of North Texas.

Dr. K has served in leadership roles in past as chief resident as well as medical director in Dallas as well as at Cook Children's, where he has advocated for the mental health needs of the community.

In his personal life, Dr. K practices meditation, enjoys running and spending time with his 2 children to deal with stress. In his daily interactions, he hopes to instill resilience in children and families dealing with emotional and behavioral difficulties. He believes in rational use of medications along with psychotherapy, family supports, community supports as well as promoting healthy diet, activities and sleep.
