Meet Dr. Yasmin Carter

Dr. Yasmin Partee Carter was raised in Jackson, Mississippi. Prior to medical school, Dr. Carter was a middle and high school teacher, which provided experiences for her to become more patient, empathetic and confident. She learned to not judge a book by its cover and that a good bit of compassion and guidance can help anyone.

After two years of teaching middle and high school students, Dr. Carter decided to finish the path to becoming a physician, and not just any physician. She chose a field that allowed her to be an advocate for children. She is grateful that child and adolescent psychiatry allows her the opportunity to treat problems by integrating biomedical, psychological and social perspectives.

Dr. Carter obtained her bachelor's degree in biology from Thee Jackson State University and obtained her master's in health science degree from Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN.

Dr. Carter earned her medical degree and completed her residency training in psychiatry at the University of Mississippi Medical Center. During residency, Dr. Carter earned the very prestigious APA and APA Foundation Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship, exhibiting her dedication to the field.

Dr. Carter was also awarded "Best Medical Student Educator Award" and "The Howard Rottwarg Award", acknowledging excellence in teaching and exceptional participation in scholarly activity/research.

Dr. Carter completed Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at John Peter Smith Health Network here in Fort Worth, TX where she was a Chief Fellow during her last year.
Dr. Carter strives to create a safe and supportive environment for young patients and their families, guiding them through challenges such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and behavioral disorders.
