Meet Dr. Travis Wilder

Dr. Travis Wilder is a pediatric cardiothoracic surgeon at Cook Children's Hospital. His interest in medicine began during his time as a collegiate baseball player where he developed a deep appreciation for the human body's capabilities. He went on to pursue a degree in physiology, which ultimately inspired his decision enter the medical field. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Arizona, Dr. Wilder attended Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana.

During medical school, Dr. Wilder worked closely with surgical mentors who introduced him to the world of congenital cardiac surgery. His interest in the field deepened during his early general surgery training at the University of California San Diego. To further expand his knowledge of congenial cardiac surgery, Dr. Wilder took a two-year leave to complete a research fellowship sponsored by the Congenital Heart Surgeons' Society in Toronto, Canada. In addition to contributing to publications and presenting at national and international conferences, Dr. Wilder was also able to earn a Master of Science degree in Biostatistics at the University of Toronto. This experience allowed him to collaborate with some of the leading figures in congenital cardiac surgery, adding to his passion for the specialty.

Dr. Wilder completed his cardiothoracic surgery fellowship at the University of Utah before pursuing a congenital cardiac surgery fellowship at Texas Children's Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. He then served as a staff surgeon at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, where he was also an assistant professor at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr. Wilder is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Cardiology, and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. He has held editorial roles for medical journals such as Cardiology in the Young, The World Journal for Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgery, and The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery.

Outside of his medical career, Dr. Wilder is a devoted husband and father of two young boys. As a father, he understands the stress and challenges families face when a child requires medical care, and he is committed to providing compassionate care to both his patients and their families.
