Meet Dr. Andrew Boulos

My name is Dr. Andrew Boulos, and I am thrilled to join Cook Children's Medical Center Prosper as a pediatric emergency medicine physician. My journey to this point has been shaped by a blend of diverse experiences, deep-rooted values, and a passion for caring for children.

I was born in Egypt and raised in the Coptic Orthodox Christian tradition. My father, Dr. Boulos, was my greatest inspiration. He moved our family to the United States to provide me with better opportunities. Despite the challenges, he worked tirelessly in minimum-wage jobs, including at a friend's gas station and garage, while mastering English and continuing his medical studies. His determination paid off when he completed his residency in New York City and re-established his medical career in America. He taught me the cornerstone of medicine: "the key to good patient care is simply to care."

I carry this philosophy close to my heart, treating every child as a neighbor deserving of compassion. Inspired by the parable of the Good Samaritan, I strive to actively love each patient I meet. I silently pray for each child before entering their room, asking that God use not only my training and knowledge but also my prayer to heal. While I keep my faith personal to respect the diverse backgrounds of our patients, know that I approach each family's care with the same dedication and compassion I would want for my own family.

The University of Florida, both for undergrad and residency (where I even served as chief resident assisting in the establishment of UF pediatrics in Pensacola!), holds a special place in my heart - Go Gators! It was during my residency that I witnessed a life-changing event. Rescuing and resuscitating a drowning child solidified my calling to pediatric emergency medicine. While I received the Civilian Medal for Merit from the Orange County Sherriff's Department, the true reward has been staying in touch with the child's mother and knowing he's thriving. My medical degree comes from the University of Miami, and I completed my pediatric emergency medicine fellowship right here in Dallas. Texas has become home, bringing me closer to my wife Maddy's family and allowing me to relocate my mom nearby.

When I'm not in the emergency department, you'll find me embracing the joys of fatherhood. My son Joshua, a lively toddler, is my greatest teacher in the art of communication. I'm currently enrolled in an intensive course of "Joshuanese" - a unique language created by my son as he learns to pronounce new words. It's a humbling experience to be outsmarted by a toddler who can request "nana" (banana) in five different ways, each more cryptic than the last!

Our family is growing, with a baby girl on the way, and our home is filled with the pitter-patter of both human and furry feet. Our dog Spot, affectionately renamed "Paw" by Joshua, and our cat Orange (or "Owen" in Joshuanese) keep us on our toes.

In my spare time, I enjoy tinkering with motorized vehicles - a legacy from my mechanic father! I'm also an avid sailor - a testament to my love for the water.

I'm thrilled to be a part of Cook Children's Medical Center Prosper, where we're more than just a medical team - we're your neighbors, your support system, and your partners in ensuring the health and wellbeing of your little ones. Thank you for entrusting me with the care of your precious ones. It's my honor to be a part of this community and to serve the critically ill and injured children who need us most.
