Meet Dr. Kimberly Mulson
I knew as a child I wanted to become a doctor. My mother had been a nurse and an EMT while I was growing up. Some of my favorite times were hanging around the rescue squad and playing the patient in mock drills. I went to college with the intention of going to medical school afterwards. However, after college I went on to work for Southwest Research Institute in the Chemical Demilitarization program on Johnston Atoll. Although I did enjoy my island life of scuba diving, deep sea fishing and traveling, I didn't find my job fulfilling. Something was missing. So without a second thought I returned stateside and went back to school to get my Master's Degree.
My interest in medicine was renewed when we had a horrible experience with my dad's physician. I thought no one should have such a bad experience in one of the most stressful times in their lives. So, off to St George's University School of Medicine on the island of Grenada I went. This way I got the perks of island life again while getting my education.
I went on to do my pediatric internship/residency at the University of South Florida in Tampa. I was selected intern (resident) of the quarter in 2006. I began practicing pediatric hospital medicine and never looked back. I chose pediatrics because it was the only field of medicine in which I smiled every day even on the bad days! I joined Cook Children's as a pediatric hospitalist in the summer of 2013 and I enjoy taking care of patients within the hospital setting. In May of 2019, I became part of the hospital's physician advisor team, which is part of the department of Quality Management. My time is spent equally between patient care and quality management.
In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband, family and dog. I enjoy riding motorcycles as well as attending concerts and theatre. I also enjoy traveling abroad as well as around Texas and the rest of the USA.
