Meet Dr. Johnae Snell

Dr. Snell knew from a young age that she wanted to be a pediatrician. Her parents have photos of her as a little girl with her doctor's kit. She recently found her personal statement for college admissions applications that alluded to her one day becoming a neonatologist. At the time, she wasn't completely sure what exactly a neonatologist did, but she knew she wanted to care for teeny-tiny babies.

Focused on pursuing a career in neonatology, she completed her pediatric residency at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. She completed her neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston, Texas, where she also served as chief fellow.

As a neonatologist, she specializes in the care of premature and critically ill newborns with a variety of conditions. She has a particular interest in neonatal nutrition and promoting breastmilk acquisition for very low birthweight (VLBW) infants. During her fellowship, her research ensured families of VLBW infants went home with a hospital-grade breast pump and received tailored breastfeeding support. She is a certified lactation counselor and uses this knowledge to guide her care of premature newborns.

Dr. Snell was born in Michigan but moved to Dallas Fort-Worth when she was eight years old. She loves to sing and was in the varsity choir in high school and Glee Club in college. After spending 10 years away from home to finish her medical training, she was eager to find a position back in the Dallas Fort-Worth area. She was ecstatic to join the team of neonatologists of Pediatrix Neonatology of Texas - Fort Worth, who staff the NICU's at Cook Children's, Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth, Baylor All Saints, and several other hospitals in the area. Since moving back home, she enjoys traveling with her husband Michael, catching up on missed time with her family and childhood friends, and hanging out with her dog, Royce. She enjoys crafting with her Cricut, weightlifting, playing video games and reading.
