Meet Dr. John K. Uffman

The thought of surgery, even simple surgery, can feel overwhelming. When that surgery involves your child, it can be downright scary. John Uffman, M.D., understands this, which is why he takes the time to talk to parents and kids about what to expect. Because surgery on babies, children, teens, and even young adults is different, and sometimes more complicated, than adults, he listens to concerns, answers questions, and thoroughly explains procedures.

In addition to the time he spends caring for patients, Dr. Uffman is also very active with the medical staff at Cook Children's. He serves on many committees and boards and will be the Medical Staff President beginning in 2020. Dr. Uffman has received many honors and awards throughout his career for his Esprit de Corps and for his involvement and talent as an excellent teacher.

When he's not working, he enjoys time with family and friends, where he is known by his nickname, "Chip." As a boy, he was an Eagle Scout, and also excelled in track and field. In fact, he lettered in track and field and cross country in college. He was also an excellent student all the way through medical school. When he's not working, Dr. Uffman enjoys spending free time with his wife and two boys on his ranch. He also loves other outdoor activities including running, Spartan races and grilling.

Dr. Uffman and his staff were exceptional! They listened to my son, and really showed genuine care and concern for him and his feelings. – Patient family
