Meet Dr. Donna Poliquit
While going through rotations in medical school at the University of Texas Medical Branch, I found myself having the most fun and feeling the most at home in pediatrics. No matter the situation, I would see how kids would push through whatever difficulty or sickness they were facing and come out with big smiles on their faces in the end. Sometimes, all it would take was a high five and maybe the promise of a sticker to make them feel like they could get through that scary exam. Other times, a small hug or a pep talk was needed to get through more serious things like a CT exam or even surgery. But time and time again, I saw strength through their fear and admired it. It made me think of how strong kids really are. I thought then that I would love to have a career where I could work with kids.
Almost 10 years later after completing my internship and residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch, I am doing what I enjoy. Everyday I get to work with kids who show me daily what strength is. I get to take care of kids who despite being terrified of going to the doctor, will still let me examine them so that we can see why they are sick. I get to see kids during their check ups and feel great being able to tell them they are doing awesome. I enjoy being able to counsel kids and parents about disease processes and ways to prevent illness.
I also have tons of fun on the job. I get to talk about cartoons, toys and new movies. Sometimes, I am able to pass out little stuffed animals and books. Other times, we make balloons out of gloves. The best part of my day is when I can get a smile and a wave good bye at the end of a visit.
At home, I have a wonderful family. I have two kids who constantly keep me and my husband on our toes. As a family, we try to keep busy. My son plays soccer and I have helped coach his soccer team. My daughter enjoys dancing and gymnastics.
I can definitely say that since having kids, I can understand how hard it is when your child is sick. Those sleepless nights are rough. I can also appreciate the happiness you feel when your child thrives.

The front desk staff is always very friendly and welcoming! They always make me feel comfortable bringing my children in to the office. As always Dr. Poliquit is awesome and I love having her as a pediatrician!

I absolutely love Dr. Poliquit! She makes it very easy to communicate with her in regard to my child's care, she is always showing concern as well as knowledgeable about different factors that I bring to her attention. I'm very happy to have her as both of my children's primary doctor/pediatrician! She is legitimately the only reason why I insisted on coming to this office.
