Hi! I'm Dr. Laura Pena, and here's a little bit about my background! I grew up in Plano, Texas and completed my undergraduate education at Southern Methodist University. I graduated with degrees in biology, chemistry, and mathematics and went on to medical school at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. With a lifelong passion for caring for children, I immediately knew I wanted to be a pediatrician. I stayed in Houston to do my residency training at Texas Children's Hospital. I have since practiced as a pediatrician in Charlottesville, Virginia and Portland, Oregon but I'm so excited to be back home in Texas.
When I'm not playing with children at work, I can be found playing with my own two boys at home. I love being a mom and I feel that it has made me a better pediatrician because I'm able to share first-hand experience and knowledge to better empathize with parents.
As a pediatrician, I believe in a family-centered, team approach to medicine that is tailored to the individual needs of each patient. I strive to create an enjoyable experience for my patients and an environment in which parents feel at ease, heard, and comforted.
