Meet Dr. Rachel M. Thomas
Hi! I'm Dr. Thomas. I grew up in Abilene, Texas, where I learned the value of close-knit communities and meaningful connections. My journey into medicine began early, inspired by medical mission trips with my father, a physician, where I saw how health care could transform lives.
I earned my undergraduate degree at Baylor University and completed medical school at the University of Texas at Houston. During my third year, I discovered my calling in pediatrics, dedicating my electives to caring for children. I completed my pediatric residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo, Texas, where I refined my skills and deepened my commitment to helping kids thrive.
For me, pediatrics is about more than treating illness - it's about building lasting relationships and being a consistent, caring presence in a child's life. I find joy in watching kids grow and thrive while connecting with their families both in the office and in the community.
As a mother of three, I understand the joys and challenges of parenting. This perspective shapes my compassionate approach and strengthens my dedication to earning the trust of the families I serve. I look forward to caring for children and their families in Granbury!

The entire staff was great. We were recently forced to switch doctors due to moving and chose a Cook Children's facility due to the excellent care two of my children have received at the hospital. Dr. Thomas and her nurse are so wonderful and we felt comfortable and relaxed. They were very patient with me filling out the paperwork as I took care of my 6 month old and 2 year old. They were great and were excited to continue using them!

The nurse we had was amazing bringing me water and helping me give [...] a breathing treatment! Also the NP was great listening to my concerns going above and beyond to make sure we left with a solution

Our son gets very worked up at the doctor and the entire time [...] met [....] where he was to try to get his vitals and measurements. Dr. Thomas made us feel very comfortable and actually took the time to sit down and discuss my son's history, all of our concerns, and helped us find a plan to address some issues. It didnt feel like we were being rushed or like we didn't matter. It was very refreshing and we appreciate the staff so much!

Dr. Thomas was a last minute choice at the hospital before discharge and I would definitely recommend her to anyone looking for a doctor for their little ones!

Dr. Thomas! She was empathetic & attentive to my daughter's physical and mental health needs. My daughter is autistic and some doctors are cold and overly lecture about a plan that recognizes progress instead of perfection.

I was so worried about finding [...] a new doctor. [...] definitely feels more at ease with a female physician. Mrs. Thomas was attentive & spoke to both my daughter & myself about symptoms and follow up care! [...] always hated going to the doctor in our past experiences! Dr. Thomas and her nurse are amazing! I always forget her nurses name and she's truly wonderful. They both are so kind and actually care about any concerns, and are so great with our children. Cooks in Granbury is truly the BEST!

Everybody was fabulous. They helped me get him signed up. They went above and beyond when we got to our appointment the nurse was so wonderful with him and the doctor was fabulous with him. They explained everything to us absolutely love this place.
