Meet Dr. Rebecca Olvera
Dr. Olvera remembers visiting her newborn baby sister at the hospital after she was born. "My sister was actually born on my birthday and my father stopped at the store to buy me a gift. I imagine because everyone had forgotten it was my birthday! I picked out a Fisher-Price doctor's kit which was black in color. My dad asked if I wanted the red one and I said no. The red one was a nurse's kit, there was no difference except color. My dad just figured I would like the kit in my favorite color. I was just stubborn I guess, and wanted mine to say 'doctor.' Since that day I knew I wanted to become a physician."
As a child, Dr. Olvera loved seeing her pediatrician in the office. "I looked forward to all my visits, and even that of my siblings." Unfortunately, at age 11 she developed a chronic illness. She was diagnosed with Crohn's disease and spent way more time than she wanted in pediatric hospitals during her preteen years. "However," she notes, "it was that experience that gave me a unique perspective for caring for patients, including how children live with a chronic illness and how to be empathetic towards others."?
Dr. Olvera attended Texas A & M University in College Station for her undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cell Biology. She received her medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston and completed her pediatric residency at Texas A & M Health Science Center - Scott and White Hospital?.
It was during residency that she became interested in pediatric oncology and decided to pursue a fellowship in hematology/oncology. Dr. Olvera completed a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at UT Southwestern. She served as Chief Fellow in her final year of residency and stayed on an additional year as an assistant Instructor.
Dr. Olvera initially joined Cook Children's as a pediatric oncologist. However, having small twin boys at the time, she found it difficult to maintain that perfect work-life balance and chose to return to general pediatrics, joining Cook Children's Southwest primary care office in 2007. Today, she sees patients at Cook Children's Clearfork office.?
Dr. Olvera is the proud mom of not one but two sets of twins with the oldest being the boys and the youngest girls. She loves baking, biking, reading and going to the movies as a family.?
We love Dr. Olvera, she has been our pediatrician since our children were born and we can't imagine going to anyone else. She is caring, thoughtful, thorough, and always provides the best care. We love the office staff as well, very friendly and timely with the care our children receive. – Patient family

We will never, EVER go to another pediatrician's office. We've been around to witness a lot of changes at the office as our family has grown over the years beginning with Dr. [...] back in the early 2000's. When he passed away, as difficult as it was, we knew that we could trust the personnel's decision for his successor. We loved Dr. [...] when he came along, and it was only a natural decision to switch to his wife, Dr. Olvera when our middle daughter was a self-conscious pre-teen asking for a female doctor. We have absolutely loved Dr. Olvera so much since then! She knows our family and remembers all the details. She is so invested that seeing her is a little bit like visiting a family member (who is very medically knowledgeable.) We absolutely trust her and will continue seeking care from her. We miss [...] and some of the other office personnel who have come and gone, but we trust Dr. Olvera so we trust their staffing decisions. We did have a very positive experience with our nurse who gave our daughter the immunizations and talked with us before we saw the doctor. She did a good job listening and responding, Not just to me but more importantly, to my child. She was also very patient and respectful, despite my child's shenanigans about getting her immunizations.

The on-call nurse, [...]! She is the best on-call nurse we have experienced. She was prompt, professional, caring and so much more. She knew exactly what she was talking about and provided pertinent step by step and clear information in regard to caring for our daughter in a timely manner and preventing a near ER visit. Please ensure this nurse is recognized and given her flowers. I wish I could thank her in person. All three of our children have asthma and after speaking with other on-call nurses In the past, we always end up in the ER. This nurse was very proactive and deserves a raise and again, great recognition. Thank you Cook Children's for hiring [...]. Also all staff and physicians are excellent at the clear fork office. My children have been seeing both Dr. Olvera and Dr. Ozaeta for years and always look forward in seeing them at their appointments. Five stars for everyone!! Thank you!

I arrived for my child's sick appointment, which I scheduled myself online in the app, and did not realize that I had scheduled for the following day. The front off staff was so nice in immediately offering to check and see if there was another doctor available to see my son (our doctor had left for the day) since we were all there already and my son had a fever. This was unprompted and without my asking. Although it was near the end of the day, Dr. Olvera and her nurse worked us right into their and got us in promptly. We received our diagnosis and were able to start medication the same day. When we had problems with the medication both the same evening and the following day I placed calls to the office and received quick callbacks and all the nurses I spoke to were very helpful and kind. Kudos to the staff, Dr. Olvera, and the nurses for being so kind and compassionate. It has been a stressful week and they helped alleviate so much additional stress.
