Meet Dr. Scott Katz
Moving frequently during my childhood made me value personal relationships. Born in Chicago, then on to New York City, New Mexico, New Jersey and finally to Texas. We never lived in the same city or neighborhood for more than a few years until I was in high school. The importance of human connections and stable homes for children became very important to me. Likewise, having a special needs sibling taught me at a very young age that childhood is not all fun and games.
You never know where your path will lead and usually that is for the best. I went to college to study business and became fascinated with the economics of the American healthcare system. I decided to attend Medical School and become a Plastic Surgeon like my father, but found that I enjoyed pediatric surgery more, and really discovered that I just liked the kids and the surgery, not so much.
Kids are infinitely more fun than adults, and if a Pediatrician's patient is whiny, there is usually a good reason. She might be sick, or in pain or simply scared. Whiny adults are usually just whiny. We have a chance to help shape or change a child's path, and humor can play a big part.
I enjoy coming to the office every day, and have also found myself in positions of leadership throughout the years. I have served as the Chairman of the Pediatric Department of Medical City Plano on four separate occasions, as the President of the 700 doctor Plano Physician's Group since 2006 and as a Medical Director and Board Member for Children's Health Pediatric Partners.
After attending Vanderbilt University, I returned home to Dallas to attend medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern and completed a pediatric residency at Children's Medical Center Dallas. I joined Dr. McDonald in practice and together we joined Cook's in 2020.
I have two brothers, two sisters, two sons, two dogs and most importantly one wife. I play golf once a week to spend time with my father and enjoy cooking and walks with my wife and dogs (Bear, a petite 90 pound Golden Retriever, and Butters, a slim and trim 160 pound Great Pyrenees). ?
