Meet Dr. Virginia Ruas
Virginia Ruas, M.D., was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and attended a bilingual school (Spanish and English) that offered specialization in Physics, Biology and Math the last 2 years of high school. During this time she decided that it was her calling to attend medical school. It offered a chance to combine her love of science and desire to help others.
Dr. Ruas became interested in pediatrics on the first day of her pediatric rotation at Ricardo Gutierrez Hospital in Buenos Aires. During the last year of medical school at the University of Buenos Aires she travelled to Houston, Texas and spent 5 months at Texas Children's Hospital and Methodist Hospital. She decided to continue her medical training here in the U.S. Dr. Ruas completed her Pediatric residency at Scott and White Memorial Hospital in Temple, Texas.
She has worked in private practice since 2006. First in Florida and then in upstate New York, where she took care of patients in the outpatient clinic, hospital and newborn nursery. Dr. Ruas decided to move back to Texas and joined Cook Children's Physician Network in June of 2012.
As a pediatrician, Dr. Ruas feels it's extremely important to listen not only to the mother, but also the child. Even if they're very young, the child can give you a lot of information. This, of course, requires an extra degree of patience, empathy and compassion.

Dr. Ruas has a wonderful husband, two beautiful children and an untrainable chocolate lab. During her time away from work she loves to travel, read and work out at her local pilates studio.
