At Cook Children's, our focus is 100 percent on the dynamics of the growing athlete and providing the individualized care required to help kids, teens and young adults heal and get back to their activities safely.
What makes Cook Children's unique?
Our physical therapists are uniquely trained in pediatrics, orthopedics and sports medicine. We understand that children and teenagers are not just small adults. Their bones, muscles and tendons are different, as is their response to pain and injury. For those reasons, their treatment must also be different.
Additionally, Cook Children's is one of the few integrated pediatric health care systems in the country that specializes in the treatment of the growing athlete. This interconnected system allows our multidisciplinary team to work together to help all of our patients along their path to recovery and return to activity.
Who are we?
Our team is made up of highly skilled specialists who focus on the care of children and teen athletes. Many of our physical therapists have obtained specialized training and certifications to allow them to better serve our patients. Those include:
- Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT)
A physical therapist who has obtained a clinical doctorate in physical therapy - Board Certified Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS)
A physical therapist who has obtained an advanced certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialities. These physical therapists are considered experts in the evaluation and treatment of the athlete. - Board Certified Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS)
A physical therapist who has obtained an advanced certification from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialities. These physical therapists are considered experts in the evaluation and treatment of individuals with orthopedic conditions.
Jenny Arey, PT, DPT, OCS
Jenny Arey, PT, DPT, OCS, is a clinic lead at the Fort Worth rehabilitation clinic and has been with Cook Children's since 2011. Jenny is a doctor of physical therapy and has obtained various specialty certifications including becoming a Certified Manual Physical Therapist and a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy in 2015. She enjoys working with athletes of all types, building relationships with each individual, and striving to help every patient achieve their personal goals and reach their greatest potential.
Jessie Fernandez, PT, DPT, OCS
Jessie Fernandez, PT, DPT, OCS, has been a sports physical therapist with Cook Children's since 2014. She has her Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy and is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopedic Physical Therapy. Jessie has been practicing since 2012, and previously worked in an adult outpatient orthopedic clinic. She is passionate about treating pediatric and adolescent patients, as well as athletes. Jessie strives to empower patients and their family to fully participate in treatment in order to achieve optimal outcomes and meet their goals.
Jessie lives in Fort Worth with her husband and their son. She enjoys traveling, hiking, running and spending time with her family.
Paula Quinn, PTA
Paula Quinn, PTA, is a physical therapist assistant in sports rehabilitation and has been with Cook Children's since 1995. She worked in the hospital setting for the first 11 years before transitioning to the sports clinic. Paula enjoys working with teenagers of different athletic levels. She enjoys getting to know her patients to help return each of them safely to the sport or sports they desire and ready for game day.
Alyce Oszczakiewicz, PT, DPT
Alyce Oszczakiewicz, PT, DPT, is a sports physical therapist and has been with Cook Children's since 2015. Alyce is a former athletic trainer working with Division I athletes in a variety of sports. Alyce enjoys working with athletes of all ages with different diagnoses and various end goals. Alyce treats patients with a "work hard, play hard" attitude and enjoys having fun while helping athletes reach their goals.
Alyce and her husband live in Haltom City. They enjoy spending time with friends and family and their new, crazy puppy, Summer.
Melissa Beiler, PT, DPT, SCS
Melissa Beiler, PT, DPT, SCS, is a sports physical therapist and has been with Cook Children's since 2012. Melissa graduated as a doctor of physical therapy from The University of Iowa in 2011 and also completed a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Texas Tech University in 2008. She became a board certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy in 2015. Melissa enjoys working with athletes and kids from all backgrounds and levels but has personal experience with runners, gymnasts and dance/drill team. She is passionate about approaching each patient individually and loves to see her patients excel and fully return to their chosen activity. Melissa is a member of the Cook Children's Pain Management Team and attends this clinic once a week. She also frequently serves as a clinical instructor to physical therapy student interns.
Melissa and her husband live in North Richland Hills. They are both active runners and have run multiple marathons and half marathons. They enjoy working out, traveling, cooking, watching college football, and eating lots of ice cream.
Ryan Blankenship, PT, MPT, SCS
Ryan Blankenship, PT, MPT, SCS, has been a sports physical therapist since 2004, and joined Cook Children's in 2014. He earned his Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science from Abilene Christian University in 2001. He then obtained his masters of physical therapy from UT Southwestern Medical center in 2004. Ryan is a board certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy, and has been the lead clinician in our sports medicine concussion clinic since 2014. Ryan enjoys treating all types of athletes with special interests in concussion and the overhead athlete.
Ryan lives in North Richland Hills with his wife and two kids. He enjoys camping, hiking, kayaking, playing basketball and spending time with his family.
Amanda Vick, PT, DPT, OCS
Amanda Vick, PT, DPT, OCS, is a sports physical therapist and has been with Cook Children's since 2013. Amanda is a doctor of physical therapy and became a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Orthopaedic Physical Therapy in 2016. She is an active member on the Fort Worth rehab social committee. She enjoys making therapy a fun experience for each patient and is passionate about building trusting relationships with each family.
Amanda and her husband live in Bedford with their two crazy dogs. They enjoy working out, spending time with their dogs and family, and trying new restaurants.
Scott Elmore, PT, DPT
Scott Elmore, PT, DPT, is a sports physical therapist who works at the Mansfield rehabilitation location. Scott is a doctor of physical therapy. He enjoys working with all types of athletes but as a former college athlete he has a passion of working with more overhead and throwing based athletes.
Scott and his wife live in Fort Worth, TX. They enjoy traveling, sports, hiking, exercising/working out and are big "foodies."
Kyle Tatum, PT, DPT, OCS
Kyle Tatum, PT, DPT, OCS, is the clinic lead at the Mansfield rehabilitation clinic and has been with Cook Children's since 2013. He practices as a sports physical therapist. Kyle is a doctor of physical therapy and is a board certified clinical specialist in orthopaedic physical therapy. He enjoys working with all types of athletes, but has a passion for working with over-head and throwing athletes.
Kyle and his wife live in Burleson, Texas with their two young kids. They enjoy traveling, sports and spending time on the water.
Kelly Johnson, PT, DPT, ATC, LAT
Kelly Johnson, PT, DPT, ATC, LAT is a sports physical therapist and has been with Cook Children’s since 2022. Kelly is a Doctor of Physical Therapy and graduated from Hardin-Simmons University in 2013. She also has her Bachelor of Arts degree in Athletic Training. Kelly has worked with a variety of sports and athletes. She has experience in a variety of settings include hospital and neurological settings. She enjoys working with patients help them achieve their goals and realize their potential. Kelly and her husband live in Arlington with their dog, Bonnie. She enjoys taekwondo, playing with her dog, and traveling.
Richard Ashlock, PT, DPT, SCS
Richard Ashlock, PT, DPT, SCS, originally joined Cook Children's in 2008 and treated patients until 2012 when he left to serve in the mission field in Shanghai, China. He returned to Cook Children's Health in November 2018. Richard has been involved with youth sports for over a decade, having coached basketball, baseball and track. He also ran his own private practice in Shanghai, China for 2 years. He completed his undergraduate degree in 2001 at Harding University in Arkansas, where he ran track all 4 years, and earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy degree in 2004 from the University of Central Arkansas. He has been a board certified clinical specialist in sports physical therapy since 2013.
Richard lives in the Fort Worth area with his wife and two sons. Away from the clinic, he is actively involved in his church and enjoys attending his son's baseball games and staying active thorough exercise and playing all kinds of sports.
Kim Barb, PTA
Kim Barb, PTA, has her BS degree from Stephen F. Austin University and has 27 years of experience working as a licensed physical therapist assistant. She has experience working locally in home health, schools and outpatient orthopedic settings.
Outside of work, Kim enjoys coaching soccer and swimming and traveling with her family. Kim and her husband of 27 years have 2 adult children and are long term residents of Aledo. Kim enjoys working with patients of all ages and is rewarded by seeing them return to the activities they enjoy!
Savannah Rendon, PT, DPT
Savannah Rendon, PT, DPT, is a pediatric sports physical therapist who began working at Cook Children’s in 2022. She received her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from Abilene Christian University. She stayed in Abilene to continue her education at Hardin-Simmons University, where she received her Doctorate in Physical Therapy. Savannah first discovered her passion for working with children and sports through coaching at the Boys and Girls Club, as well as assisting with camps as part of her time playing softball at Abilene Christian University. Savannah loves being able to assist athletes in reaching their goals so that they feel prepared and confident to return to their sports. In her free time, she enjoys playing softball/golf, walking her dog Tex, and spending time with friends and family outdoors.
Devyn Clemence PT, DPT
Devyn Clemence PT, DPT is a sports physical therapist who has been with Cook Children’s since 2022. Devyn attended Texas Tech University and UT Health San Antonio where she received her doctorate in physical therapy. In her practice, Devyn most loves to serve the pediatric population. Previously, she has worked with both neurological and orthopedic pediatric patients, and now currently works with the sports team in Mansfield. It is important to Devyn that her patients find their confidence following an injury and return to doing what they love. Outside of work, Devyn enjoys making arts and crafts and going for hikes. Her favorite ice cream flavor is cookies and cream and she loves to dance!
