Construction Updates: Fort Worth Campus

We’re growing to better serve our patients, families and staff with the expansion of our medical center in Fort Worth. As construction progresses, you may notice temporary changes to parking and walking paths around campus. We know these adjustments can be inconvenient, and we’re committed to keeping you informed every step of the way so your visit can be as smooth as possible. 

Please allow at least 15 extra minutes to get to your intended appointments. If you are running late, be sure to call the department as soon as possible, and inform them how late you may be. Please drive safely and be mindful of pedestrians around the campus.  

Construction and traffic details

IMPORTANT: Upcoming construction on roundabout, Cooper St. and 7th Ave.

From March 23 through April 12, Cooper Street in front of Dodson, 7th Avenue between Cooper Street and Terrell Avenue, and the southwest side of the roundabout will be closed. 

  • Cook Children's Dodson Specialty Clinics will only be accessible from 8th Avenue.
  • The main entrance to the medical center will only be accessible by going south of 7th Avenue from Pennsylvania. 
  • In the roundabout, flaggers will help vehicles navigate during the day. Traffic lights will be in place to direct vehicles at night.
  • The sidewalk on the west side of 7th Avenue will remain accessible.

March 23 through 29

Vehicle traffic updates

  • Cooper Street, roundabout and 7th Avenue: All lanes closed. Roundabout closed on southwest side.
    • Two way traffic on northeast side of roundabout. Follow flaggers, traffic lights and signs.
    • Cooper Street west of 7th Avenue closed.
    • 7th Avenue between Cooper Street and Terrell Avenue closed.
  • 8th Avenue between Cannon Street and Rosedale Street: 8th Avenue reduced to one lane each way. 
  • 8th Avenue and Rosedale Street: All lanes reduced to one lane each way.
    • No right turn from southbound 8th Avenue to westbound Rosedale Street.
  • On March 27 - 8th Avenue traffic lights at Cooper Street and Terrell Avenue: Power outage. Lights will be flashing red.
  • 6th Avenue and Terrell Avenue: Intersection reduced to one lane westbound only until March 25.
    • Traffic desiring to go east on Terrell Avenue to access 6th Avenue must use 7th Avenue and go north to Pennsylvania Avenue or south to Rosedale Street.
  • Southland Avenue between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue: All lanes closed.
  • Humbolt Street between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue: All lanes closed.
  • 6th Avenue between Terrell Avenue and Humbolt Street: All lanes closed.

Pedestrian walking updates

  • Sidewalks closed:
    • North side of Terrell Avenue and east side of 8th Avenue around West Tower jobsite.
    • North side of Pulaski Street, west side of 6th Avenue and south side of Humbolt Street around SUP expansion jobsite.
    • East side of 7th Avenue between Humbolt Street and Pulaski Street, and between Cooper Street and Terrell Avenue.
    • West side of 6th Avenue between Terrell Avenue and Humbolt Street.
    • South side of Pulaski Street between 7th Avenue and 6th Avenue.
    • South side of Cooper Street between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue.
  • Crosswalks closed:
    • North side of 8th Avenue and Rosedale Street.

Parking lots and garages updates

  • UCC parking lot:
    • Parking spaces closed on west side of parking lot.
  • Terrell Avenue garage: 
    • ED patient parking pedestrian exit closed. Use temporary pedestrian path.
    • 6th Avenue and Humbolt Street exits closed. Exit through physician parking area.
  • Thompson lot:
    • East side: No access 1/14-3/31

Learn why we're growing

As Fort Worth continues to experience rapid growth, the demand for specialized pediatric care has increased significantly. To address this need, Cook Children’s is preparing to embark on a 10-year master plan, beginning with the construction of a new 760,000-square-foot medical tower, referred to as the West Tower. This plan will allow for a new and improved Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as additional capacity for our Hematology and Oncology Center, operating rooms, and imaging services.
