Construction Updates: Fort Worth Campus

We’re growing to better serve our patients, families and staff with the expansion of our medical center in Fort Worth. As construction progresses, you may notice temporary changes to parking and walking paths around campus. We know these adjustments can be inconvenient, and we’re committed to keeping you informed every step of the way so your visit can be as smooth as possible. 

Please allow at least 15 extra minutes to get to your intended appointments. If you are running late, be sure to call the department as soon as possible, and inform them how late you may be. Please drive safely and be mindful of pedestrians around the campus.  

Construction and traffic details

IMPORTANT: Terrell Avenue closure beginning May 18.

Starting May 18, Terrell Avenue between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue will be closed.

  • You must use 6th Avenue via Pennsylvania Avenue or Rosedale Street to access the Emergency Department (ED) located on 6th Avenue and Terrell Avenue.
  • The ED will no longer be accessible from 8th Avenue.

Vehicle traffic updates

  • Cooper Street between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue: All lanes closed. 
  • Cooper Street west of 8th Avenue. Eastbound lane closed.
  • 8th Avenue between Cannon Street and Rosedale Street: 8th Avenue reduced to one lane each way.
  • 8th Avenue and Rosedale Street: 8th Avenue reduced to one lane each way.
  • Terrell Avenue between 8th Avenue and 7th Avenue: All lanes closed.
  • Southland Avenue west of 7th Avenue: All lanes closed.

Learn why we're growing

As Fort Worth continues to experience rapid growth, the demand for specialized pediatric care has increased significantly. To address this need, Cook Children’s is preparing to embark on a 10-year master plan, beginning with the construction of a new 760,000-square-foot medical tower, referred to as the West Tower. This plan will allow for a new and improved Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), an expanded Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as well as additional capacity for our Hematology and Oncology Center, operating rooms, and imaging services.
