Meet Dr. Rachel Talbot
Working with children has always been a passion of mine. Starting in middle school and all through college I would volunteer at a summer camp for kids with special needs and I instantly fell in love with working with this extraordinary population. I got first-hand experience working with kids with ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and behavioral disorders, just to name a few. This led me to pursue a career in child psychiatry knowing that I would be able to help improve the daily lives of the children and their families. I enjoy working with children and their families on overcoming daily struggles and finding solutions that suit the needs of the whole family. My favorite thing to hear from a parent on a follow-up visit is "I have my child back again."
I want parents to understand that having your child seeing a psychiatrist does not mean that you did anything wrong or that something is wrong with your child. 1 in 5 children have some type of mental health or behavioral concern in a given year. Mental health disorders can be caused by multiple factors including your child's individual biology and brain chemistry, genetics/family history, trauma history, and their environment. Children today are being constantly bombarded and influenced by messages from social media, YouTube and other streaming portals, peers, and electronic devices which can all have an impact on their overall mental health. Additionally, the academic and social pressures on kids have increased over the years, further contributing to mental health disorders, including but not limited to behavioral disorders, depression, and anxiety. Once you see the signs of an emerging mental health condition it is important to seek help. Intervening early can help prevent future problems and complications for your child.
During my initial appointments, I do a comprehensive evaluation looking at the child's complete psychological, medical, social, and developmental history as all can contribute to the current concern. I work with the child and family to figure out the best solution that fits with your goals for treatment of your child, whether that be therapy, medication, or a combination of the two. My ultimate goals for the child and family are for the child to be safe and to be successful.
Mental health and wellness are also an important part of my personal life. In my spare time, I enjoy being outside and active, running and biking. These are my favorite coping skills to use. I also enjoy spending time with family, including my 2 cats.

Please continue to offer video visits. They work great for us, and my child misses a minimal amount of school. An in person visit would probably result in a whole day missed due to the amount of time it would take us to drive plus allow time for unexpected traffic.

Dr Talbot is extremely good at listening to (patient) describe her situation, symptoms and preferences. She does an excellent job of reiterating what she's heard to let us know she heard and understood. She does a great job of explaining, to both of us, what the plan is and WHY she is proposing the plan. She also works well with (patient) to address all her concerns. If only all doctors could do this!

She is always so great to visit with. She clearly sees my son as a whole person, not just symptoms that need to be managed. We appreciate her and her assistance with managing his care. We also really appreciate being able to do video visits for these type of appointments. They save so much time, effort, energy and added expenses. Our level of interaction and care remains just as good if not better than in person.
