Komalben Parmar, MD

Born in Gujarat, India, I grew up in a family that taught me the importance of compassion, service and caring for others. Those values, along with my fascination with biology and the human body, inspired me to pursue medicine and ultimately dedicate my career to caring for children.

During medical school, I discovered my passion for pediatrics. I was drawn to the resilience of children and the opportunity to make a meaningful difference not only in their health, but also in the lives of their families. I quickly learned that caring for children means caring for the whole family—and that trust, communication and compassion are just as important as medical expertise.

My journey into pediatric endocrinology began during residency in Flint, Michigan, where I became fascinated by the complexity of endocrine physiology and the remarkable ways the endocrine system influences a child's growth, development, and overall well-being. During my endocrinology fellowship, my research with Dr. Riba-Wolman and Dr. David Weinstein on normal fasting ketone physiology deepened my interest in glucose and ketone metabolism and sparked a particular passion for understanding and treating hypoglycemia and hyperinsulinemia.

After completing my fellowship, I spent five years as a pediatric endocrinologist at Dolly Parton Children's Hospital in Tennessee, caring for children with a wide range of endocrine conditions and partnering closely with their families. These experiences reinforced for me how important it is to listen carefully, explain complex medical conditions in ways families can understand, and develop treatment plans that are thoughtful and individualized to each child.

I am thrilled to join Cook Children's in Fort Worth and become part of a team so deeply committed to improving the health and well-being of children. I am especially excited to further develop my expertise in congenital hyperinsulinism and hypoglycemia while learning from and collaborating with Dr. Paul Thornton and the exceptional pediatric endocrinology team at Cook Children's.

What drew me to Cook Children's is its strong commitment to children and families and its culture of collaboration, innovation and compassionate care. I look forward to building lasting relationships with the families I serve and helping children navigate their endocrine conditions so they can grow, thrive and live their fullest lives.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two children. We love exploring new places and trying different cuisines as a family. These moments remind me of what matters most—family, connection, and being present for the people we care about. Those same values guide me in my work as a pediatric endocrinologist.

I am honored to begin this next chapter at Cook Children's and look forward to serving the children and families of Fort Worth and the surrounding communities.
