Meet Dr. Marty Knott
I was born in Houston, TX and despite moving often as a child, my family moved back to Texas when I was 11. My interest in medicine started during a high school summer internship where I was mesmerized by the environment of the operating room. I went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Texas A&M University. Following that, I attended medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
During my first year of medical school I was invited to the research laboratory of two of my great mentors and my interest in research was ignited. I enrolled in the graduate school and went on to receive my D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) and my Ph.D. in Integrative Physiology. I am proud of my D.O. degree as it has taught me a unique way of approaching the patient as a whole.
I completed my general surgery training at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA. During my third year of residency I went on a mission trip to Haiti and knew Pediatric Surgery was the career for me. I spent a year doing research in Kansas City. It was one of the best years of my professional career, and my love for pediatric surgery only grew. I then had the wonderful opportunity to complete my Pediatric Surgery Fellowship in Kansas City. My experience there prepared me to perform advanced minimally invasive procedures.
I joined Cook Children's in January of 2016. I love what I do. I enjoy taking care of children and their families. It is rewarding to see a child feel better after surgery. Whether it be a laparoscopic hernia repair or a laparoscopic resection of a choledochal cyst, minimally invasive surgery remains my passion.
In my free time I enjoy time with my wife, Kasey, and our three boys. I love being outside and riding my bike.

The whole visit was really well. When I walked in registration was super nice, they told me exactly where to go. Upstairs at the appointment, my husband and youngest daughter were waiting in the waiting, and they said he can come back too. Which I appreciated, having my family there for support for my middle daughter. The doctor was great with (patient), when she didn't want to lay down to get checked he said it was okay, he can check her standing. He really made my kids feel okay and comfortable, which is so important as a parent when there kid has to go have surgery.

This was our first time with Dr. Knott, he was very upfront and honest about things and told me something we would need to schedule in several years (I always appreciate a heads up). But this office is amazing, we love Eden, Juanita and Maribel so much. They always treat (patient) like he's the only kid they ever see, that's probably why he absolutely loves going to his appointment there. He's always greeted with smiles, conversation and give out hugs freely.

The whole staff was wonderful. Our nurse did a fabulous job of explaining all of the procedure. Dr. Knott was so kind and patient with daughter. Abigail, with child life was so thorough and sweet. Laura was wonderful to make sure Steve could stop by after the procedure. My daughter was so excited just to know she could see Steve after and love on him and give him treats.

First time at Cooks where all the staff spoke to my disabled, nonverbal son. I was blown away from this small act of kindness.
