Meet Dr. Marty Knott
I was born in Houston, TX and despite moving often as a child, my family moved back to Texas when I was 11. My interest in medicine started during a high school summer internship where I was mesmerized by the environment of the operating room. I went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts in Biology from Texas A&M University. Following that, I attended medical school at the Texas College of Osteopathic Medicine.
During my first year of medical school I was invited to the research laboratory of two of my great mentors and my interest in research was ignited. I enrolled in the graduate school and went on to receive my D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) and my Ph.D. in Integrative Physiology. I am proud of my D.O. degree as it has taught me a unique way of approaching the patient as a whole.
I completed my general surgery training at Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, VA. During my third year of residency I went on a mission trip to Haiti and knew Pediatric Surgery was the career for me. I spent a year doing research in Kansas City. It was one of the best years of my professional career, and my love for pediatric surgery only grew. I then had the wonderful opportunity to complete my Pediatric Surgery Fellowship in Kansas City. My experience there prepared me to perform advanced minimally invasive procedures.
I joined Cook Children's in January of 2016. I love what I do. I enjoy taking care of children and their families. It is rewarding to see a child feel better after surgery. Whether it be a laparoscopic hernia repair or a laparoscopic resection of a choledochal cyst, minimally invasive surgery remains my passion.
I have three boys. I love being outside and riding my bike.
