Meet Dr. Ruth Ellen Jones
Every day, Dr. Jones feels profoundly grateful for the opportunity to combine her skills and compassion to transform the lives of children as a dedicated pediatric surgeon. From her early years as a teen, when she enjoyed babysitting and serving as a camp counselor, she has always been passionate about enriching the lives of young people through creative activities and nurturing care. Today, she channels that same passion into her medical practice, striving to ensure that every child experiences a healthy and joyful childhood.
Raised in Dallas, Texas, Dr. Jones was positively influenced by her family's legacy in the medical field. Her father and grandparents, who were esteemed physicians and nurses, instilled in her a strong sense of community service and the healing power of medicine. She pursued her undergraduate studies in Spanish at the University of Texas at Austin, where she also laid the groundwork for her medical education. Dr. Jones earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center (UTSW) in Dallas. It was during her rotation in emergency and trauma surgery at Parkland Hospital that she felt a magnetic pull towards the surgical field, captivated by its dynamic, team-oriented approach to solving complex health problems.
With her innate desire to help children, Dr. Jones specialized in Pediatric Surgery. She completed her General Surgery training at UTSW and is board-certified by the American Board of Surgery. She underwent Pediatric Surgery training at the Johns Hopkins Children's Center in Baltimore, Maryland. She is thrilled to bring her skills and enthusiasm to Fort Worth as part of the Pediatric Surgery group at Cook Children's.
Dr. Jones is unwavering in her commitment to delivering top-tier surgical care to infants, children, and adolescents. She excels in a range of clinical interests, including congenital thoracic and abdominal surgery, neonatal surgery, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. She is adept at minimally invasive and robotic surgical techniques, particularly in the areas of hepatobiliary, colorectal, abdominal wall, retroperitoneal, and thoracic conditions. Her relentless pursuit of surgical innovation aims to elevate the standard of pediatric surgical care.
When she steps out of her surgical scrubs, Dr. Jones relishes quality time with her family, friends, and colleagues. An avid traveler, one of her most memorable journeys was a cruise through the Galapagos Islands, where she encountered a centenarian tortoise!
