Meet Dr. Lizy Varughese

When it comes to caring for kids, Lizy Varughese, M.D. knows that being a pediatrician is more than medical care, it's about listening to parents and patients, talking to them about care and prevention, and helping them to feel comfortable about the decisions they make.

Being the mother of two has certainly taught her that pediatrics is not "all textbook" and flexibility to various cultures, habits and preferences are so important in creating an effective parent-doctor partnership.

One of her passions is meeting with new parents and walking with them through such a life changing event in their lives. She enjoys teaching the Newborn Basics Class and Infant CPR to help parents navigate those important first few months. She also volunteers as an educator for expectant parents at the Mid Cities Pregnancy Center.

Another one of her passions is food...and discussing healthy eating habits early in life with parents and kids. She will often share recipe ideas and tricks to getting toddlers up to teenagers to incorporate healthy foods into their diet. She treats many pediatric illnesses but emphasizes wellness care, allergy/asthma, obesity and ADHD.

Dr. Varughese grew up in Dallas, Texas. She received her B.S in Biomedical Sciences from Texas A&M University and M.D from the University of Texas in Houston. She then went on to complete a residency program in Long Island, New York and was appointed as clinical professor of pediatrics at Stony Brook University Hospital teaching and supervising medical students and residents. After that, she was in private practice in Northern New Jersey working part time while raising her two small children. She moved back to her hometown of Dallas, TX in 2013 and joined Cook Children's Physician Network in Lewisville.

She is married to Dr. Shane Varughese and has two children, Noah and Sarah, who are the joy of her life. In her spare time, Dr. Varughese enjoys photography, yoga, and cooking. She is an active member of Countryside Bible Church and serves in their Sunday School program.

Dr. Varughese is amazing with my child, always very sweet and nice. My daughter likes her a lot and enjoys coming to see her, she especially loves the princess stickers. We are very happy to have her as our pediatrician and we always feel very appreciated at her practice because everyone in her staff is very nice. – Mother of patient
