Meet Dr. Eileen Curry

Dr. Eileen Curry is a fellowship-trained Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgeon originally from Austin, Texas, and she is honored to be serving the youth of Fort Worth at Cook Children's.

Dr. Curry's role as a plastic surgeon is to treat each patient with both surgical fundamentals and creativity so that their own body does not limit how they confidently approach the world. As a plastic surgeon, she does not operate on just one part of the body, but instead the whole child. She greatly loves the surgical diversity of pediatric plastic surgery from cleft care, to craniosynostosis, to chest wall and breast surgery, to limb reconstruction, and everything in between. Dr. Curry has training in leading surgical techniques including Virtual Surgical Planning (VSP), a process that uses patient-specific 3-dimensional computer models to plan a surgery and to execute it with custom tools and implants for optimal outcomes.

In her practice, Dr. Curry excels at approaching her patients and their families with compassion and clear communication. Her experience as a coach, teacher, and aunt is evident as she talks with her young patients at a level that is appropriate for their age and understanding, and she includes them in the decision-making process.

Dr. Curry finds great fulfillment in mentoring and teaching. From her time coaching swim team in summer leagues, teaching and coaching at her hometown high school, and serving as a Spanish teaching assistant in Medical School, she finds that helping others to unlock their unseen abilities is just as inspiring to her as the direct service she provides. In fact, it was her highly-motivated high school students who inspired her to follow her dreams into medical school. As a doctor, her patients continue to inspire her as they display resilience and a child-like joy in the face of their own challenges of treatment. She approaches patients as she would her students, aiming to teach them and their families about their diagnosis, treatment options, and the anticipated path before them.

Dr. Curry additionally has a passion for community outreach. Her most treasured residency memory was when she traveled with the non-profit Legacy of Healing to Sáenz Peña, Argentina, where she did over 30 surgeries for families who likely would not have ever had the same access to surgery. Maintaining her conversational Spanish and growing her microsurgical experience during her fellowship are just examples of how she strives to broaden her impact among the community. Her personal goal is to continue medical mission work, especially educating and supporting international surgeons to provide quality care in their hometowns.

Dr. Curry received her Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Grove City College in Pennsylvania, and returned to her hometown high school in Austin to teach math and coach softball. After teaching for two years, she followed her dream of going to medical school and went to The University of Texas School of Medicine at San Antonio. She exhibited exceptional leadership as the class president, and as a member of both the Alumni Board and the Student Advisory Committee to the University of Texas System Board of Regents.

Dr. Curry obtained a competitive six-year integrated plastic surgery residency position at Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, where she gained comprehensive cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery training for patients of all ages, yet solidified her love for the pediatric plastic surgery population.

She then returned to her hometown of Austin to do a fellowship in Craniofacial and Pediatric Plastic Surgery through UT Medical Branch located at the University of Texas Dell Medical School. During her fellowship she was privileged to gain extensive surgical experience in both the pediatric and adult populations, addressing head and neck reconstruction needs for congenital, traumatic, or complex oncologic cases.

Dr. Curry is Board Certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Growing up, Dr. Curry was active in band, softball, and was always by a swimming pool, competing, coaching, lifeguarding, or simply enjoying the water. These days, in her free time, she still loves music, travel, and anything close to a body of water. She has a loving, close-knit family, and cherishes the time that she gets to spend with them.

My daughter had a full meltdown during and after the procedure and the entire team did everything they could to assist with the situation. There wasn't much they could do, but having any support at all was such a rare experience for us.
