Meet Dr. Amy Richardson
I did not grow up wanting to be a doctor. Medicine did not find me until late in my college career. But once in medical school, pediatrics found me early and I never doubted the decision to be a pediatrician. What drew me to pediatrics was relationships. I enjoyed not only caring for the child but being simultaneously and equally responsible for supporting parents. Pediatrics is collaborative, and I find joy and satisfaction in my job when I am able to establish trust and communication with parents. In the meantime I get to play with children all day and marvel at their growth and development. I am never bored with the constantly changing ages, developmental stages, intellectual abilities, and emotional skills that populate my exam rooms every day. I cherish the challenge of relating to individuals whose development is continually in progress. I am regularly astounded at the resiliency of children and the hope they represent, sometimes even in the midst of devastating illness or tragic circumstances. I consider it a privilege to care for every child and collaborate with every parent that I encounter in the urgent care setting.
I earned my bachelor of arts degree in biology from Baylor University. I completed my medical degree at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center School of Medicine where I was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. I completed my pediatric residency training at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.
After completing residency I practiced primary care for eight years in Wylie, TX. I joined Cook Children's Physician Network in June 2016 and have been working in the urgent care clinics since that time.
While it was incredibly difficult to leave the families and relationships I had cultivated in primary care, I have enjoyed the change of pace that urgent care has provided. I enjoy the increased variety of illness and injury that I now encounter everyday and still incorporate those primary care skills with every patient.
When not working I enjoy reading, running, anything outdoors, sporting events, and spending time with family.
