Hematology and Oncology Resources
Illness can be stressful for children and their family members, so Cook Children's offers a variety of ways to meet the emotional, psychological and spiritual needs of our patients and families.
Cook Children's Support Services include Child Life specialists who provide therapeutic, educational and recreational activities, licensed clinical and play therapists, psychologists and social services, as well as pastoral care dedicated to caring for the hematology, oncology and stem cell transplant patients. Translation services are also provided for non-English speaking patients and families.
Educational support is offered by two full-time RN educators who provide disease-specific information to patients and families. The educators also provide group and one-on-one training on how to care for the patient's central line prior to discharge.
Newsletters
Keeping track of all the information and resources surrounding your child’s medical team and care can be difficult. In order to help support our Hematology and Oncology families, the Family Advisory Council has created a family newsletter. Find all issues here, or for more information, reach out to the team at parents@cookchildrens.org.
For your convenience the following links can help you find tools and information to help you navigate your child's disease, patient and family support groups, camps with full medical support for patients, and some that support siblings, and even the whole family. Plus links to nutritional support, community and educational resources, and palliative care.
