Cardiology

Knowing that every child's life is sacred, it is the promise of Cook Children's to improve the health of every child in our region through the prevention and treatment of illness, disease and injury. Because of this, each member of our team is dedicated to improving the health of all children affected by cardiovascular disorders through patient management and by continuing education for the patient, family and community. The Heart Center at Cook Children's has become one of the nation's fastest evolving cardiac programs. The Heart Center's world class faculty combine the use of cutting-edge surgical procedures and technology with a compassionate and family-centered approach to pediatric cardiac care and congenital heart surgery. Innovative surgical procedures, 3-dimensional virtual planning and printing of congenital heart disease, 4-dimensional and high-field cardiac MRI, digital home real-time monitoring for single ventricle patients, as well as participation in multiple cardiac registries and collaboratives are the product of the physicians and their promise to improve the care of their patients. The Heart Center currently partners with several other hospitals and organizations including:

  • Children's Hospital of Michigan
  • Children's Mercy Hospital, Kansas City
  • National Pediatric Cardiology Quality Improvement Collaborative (NPC-QIC)
  • Pediatric Heart Network (PTN)
  • Congenital Cardiovascular Interventional Study Consortium (CCISC)

Cook Children's Heart Center is interested in a range of topics relating to the care provided to our patients. Some of the current research interests include:

  • Advances in imaging techniques for diagnosis and treating heart conditions
  • Risk factors associated with cardiovascular procedures
  • Outcomes of cardiovascular procedures
  • Impact of altered blood flow following surgery
