"I really enjoy spending my time with kids. Being able to encourage them to color or play a game allows them to escape their situation for a bit and just have fun." – Weekend Child Life volunteer
The College Student Volunteer Program runs from September 1st- May 30th. During that time, volunteers are expected to complete a minimum of 50 service hours. At the completion of 50 hours each year, students will have the option of a one-time shadowing opportunity with a staff person in their field of interest/study at the end of the spring semester.
The number of student placements available in the program varies each year depending on how many departments sign on to participate.
"Volunteering has helped me become more grateful and aware of what life is all about. I am able to make a difference in these kids' lives and it definitely makes me a better person. The work I do at Cook Children's is so rewarding and it is my biggest accomplishment." — Transitional/Respiratory Care Unit volunteer
