Meet Dr. James Higgins
Dr. Higgins is a board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist at his 29th year of practice. He is committed to compassionate, high-quality care with an emphasis on healthy lifestyles for the entire family.
Board-certified in pediatric gastroenterology by the American Board of Pediatrics and a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, Dr. Higgins holds licensure in the state of Texas.
He completed his residency in pediatrics at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, where he was Chief Resident of Pediatrics in 1990. He became interested in gastrointestinal disorders during his first year of residency. He completed a fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition at Children's Hospital Medical Center in Cincinnati. He returned to Lubbock in 1994 where he established the first Pediatric Gastroenterology service in the region.
Dr. Higgins and his wife Karen have been married for 39 years. They enjoy traveling and spending time with their three married daughters and five grandchildren. They are also active church members with a passion for ministry to college students.
Dr. Higgins is an avid runner having completed 68 full marathons, including one in each of the 50 states. He enjoys staying active, hiking, trail running and can be found exploring Palo Duro Canyon in Amarillo, Tx whenever the opportunity arises.
