Specialty Programs

Cook Children's rehabilitation programs offer more than effective therapies and the latest advances in treatment. Our specialized teams tailor each therapy plan to focus on your child's specific rehabilitation needs. Our goal is to help make childhood as simple as possible for your child and your family. We do this through programs that are designed to provide the best possible outcomes by:

  • Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis
    Scoliosis can affect how a person stands, moves or feels. Our physical therapists (PT) have specialized advanced training in treating scoliosis.

  • Augmentative and alternative communication (AAC)
    Children who have difficulty communicating verbally may be able to use pictures, communication boards or speech-generating devices to communicate.

  • Audiology
    Audiologists focus on diagnosing specific types of hearing loss for all pediatric ages.

  • Auditory Processing Disorder (APD)
    Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a disorder of the auditory system that causes a disruption in the way that an individual's brain understands what they are hearing.

  • Cleft Lip and/or Palate & Velopharyngeal Dysfunction
    Cleft Lip and/or Palate & Velopharyngeal Dysfunction Children with a structural issue in their soft palate may have difficulty speaking. Air may come out of their nose, or they may be very unintelligible.

  • Cochlear Implant
    The cochlear implant (CI) program was created to serve children diagnosed with significant hearing loss who receive limited to no hearing aid benefit and whose families are dedicated to seeking an oral mode of communication.

  • Exercise Induced Laryngeal Obstruction (EILO)
    Our speech language pathologists can help your child learn breathing techniques to prevent EILO and enjoy their favorite activities.

  • Equipment Clinic
    Our Equipment clinic team works with you and your child to find the equipment that's best suited to help improve your child's function and independence, and your peace of mind.

  • Facial Reanimation
    If your child is unable to use their facial muscles to eat, speak, or show emotions, we can help.

  • Feeding Therapy
    Cook Children's feeding therapists are here to help children of all ages, from newborns to adolescents, overcome feeding difficulties.

  • Hand Therapy
    Cook Children's hand therapists have advanced training and experience in treating patients with conditions affecting the upper extremity.

  • Occupational Therapy
    Occupational therapy focuses on fine motor and functional skills to enhance development, restore function and to prevent disability from pediatric conditions, illness and injury.

  • Pain Rehabilitation
    If pain is preventing your child from participating in sports, play or other physical activities, you want to find the best care possible so they can recover and get back in the game.

  • Pelvic Floor Rehabilitation
    Children who develop incontinence or pain may begin to avoid activities and isolate themselves from friends and family. Fortunately, Cook Children's rehabilitation team can help.

  • Physical Therapy

  • Serial Casting
    Serial casting improves range of motion in shortened muscles. This can help your child stand, walk or move better and decrease their pain.

  • Sports Physical Therapy
    Sports Physical Therapy provides coordinated and comprehensive care to children and teens with orthopedic or sports related injuries.

  • Vestibular Disorder
    A vestibular disorder is a problem within the organs of the inner ear that can cause difficulty balancing or symptoms of dizzinessand even result in developmental delays. Fortunately, Cook Children's audiologists are here to help your child.

  • Vestibular Rehabilitation
    Diagnosing and treating vestibular disorders in children and teens requires special skills.

  • Voice Disorders
    Children with voice disorders may have difficulty breathing during exercise or using their voice to speak or sing. Our speech-language pathologists can help change how your child's voice sounds and help decrease breathing difficulties during exercise.
