Why choose Cook Children’s for Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia care

At Cook Children's, we're proud of our comprehensive, multispecialty Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia Clinic. As one of only nine CARES Foundation Centers of Excellence nationwide, we provide exceptional, research-based care. Our goal is to help your child thrive throughout their life.

What you can expect

You can count on our team for compassionate, leading-edge care. When you choose our clinic, you can expect:

Your child receives care from experts in Endocrinology, Urology, Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology, and Clinical Therapy. We work hard to ensure you see all the necessary specialists in one visit. Our team also includes a pharmacist who helps explain medication benefits, instructions and interactions. In addition, we work closely with Genetics, so your family has access to genetic counseling.

Many of our patients with CAH have received treatment from our team since birth. We're invested in making it easy for your child to transition to adult care. We work closely with adult CAH endocrinology practices to ensure your child gets the services they need.

Our team treats more babies and children with CAH than nearly anywhere else in the region. We're well-equipped to care for children with all forms of CAH, including rare types.

We have dedicated nurses who serve as our clinic coordinators. They help educate your family about CAH, schedule your appointments, answer your questions and provide resources for ongoing care.

If your family lives outside the Fort Worth area, your child may get follow-up care at one of our satellite clinics. When appropriate, we also use telemedicine to make it as convenient as possible for your family.

Advancing congenital adrenal hyperplasia care

Our medical and surgical experts work together to create a personalized plan for your child. We follow best practices in congenital adrenal hyperplasia treatment, so you can feel confident that your child is getting leading-edge care. We offer:

Our endocrinologists offer all research-based medical therapies for CAH. We stay up to date on the latest medication formulations. Thanks to our involvement in clinical trials, your child may have access to the newest medicines that aren't widely available.

Some infants with CAH who are assigned female at birth have outer genitalia that look different than expected. Your family may choose surgical evaluation with our urologist to ensure normal functioning of the genitalia.

You may also decide to forego surgery until your child is old enough to participate in decision-making. That’s why our team includes an adolescent gynecologist who's knowledgeable, sensitive and experienced in the available surgery options.

Our clinical therapists help you and your child navigate the social or emotional effects of a CAH diagnosis. They offer ongoing resources, including through in-person and virtual support groups.

Your child's treatment team includes some of the top minds in medicine. We're at the forefront of new CAH treatments through participation in research and clinical trials.
