Cook Children's is one of the few pediatric facilities in the nation to offer full-service cardiology care. Our rapidly growing heart center is quickly becoming one of the leading centers for newborns, children, adolescents and young adults with acquired or congenital heart and cardiovascular disorders and diseases. At Cook Children's, our goal is to work closely with our patients, their families and referring physicians to determine the best plan of treatment for the one thing that matters most: your child's well-being.

As part of our collaborative nature, we have access to the full support of a wide array of our pediatric specialties including neurosciences, genetics, hematology and other specialties that might be required to support your child's specific issue. Your child will also have access to state-of-the-art testing and diagnostics with a focus on technology that is minimally or noninvasive whenever possible. Our new Heart Center, on the third floor of the South Tower, brings together all of the inpatient areas in one location, which was not previously available. The operating rooms, all-private intensive care unit and step-down unit are within several feet of each other. Additionally, all equipment needed for diagnostic testing or interventional procedures is located in the new Heart Center as well. The center includes a catheterization lab that can also be turned into an operating room without having to transport the patient. This allows for increased efficiencies, minimized risk for our medically fragile patients and an overall better experience for cardiology patients who require diagnostic testing or cardiac procedures.

Rare and complex congenital heart defects don’t always present a clear cut method of treatment. Often, there are multiple ways of approaching the diagnosis. Our physicians also are available to provide second opinions for families seeking alternative treatment options.
