We Did It. Conjoined Twin Girls Separated at Cook Children's Make History
April 2023 | The birth of a child is a special time for parents. For the Finleys, receiving the news they would have twins was a double blessing! However, their 10-week ultrasound showed the babies were conjoined, and the family learned the girls would have a long medical journey ahead of them. From that moment forward, they began many months of planning and preparation with surgeons at Cook Children's to separate the twins. Once the twins were born and the surgery day was set, every detail about the girls' surgery needed to be rehearsed to ensure they both had a successful outcome after surgery. Two teams of 25 physicians and surgical staff members collaborated for the momentous day – separation day. A first in Cook Children's 105-year history, surgeons spent 11 hours in the operating room tending to the twins.
