Spotlight on Emily Bohon

"Energetic." "Uplifting." "Role model." These are the words employees share to describe Emily Bohon, a licensed vocational nurse at Cook Children's Pediatrics in Burleson.

"Emily is so awesome for so many reasons," says Minde Sullivan, practice manager of Cook Children's Pediatrics in Burleson. "She is able to multitask, think outside the box and has tons of energy. She is eager to help our patients, physicians and management, and she works nonstop from the time she arrives until she leaves."

Emily describes her role at Cook Children's Medical Center as one in which she wears many hats.

"I get to love on every one of the kids that comes into our clinic," she says. "I am the first one they see when they go into an examination room. I am the one who gets them ready for the doctor or nurse practitioner. If they need shots, I am usually the last one they see before they leave. I answer calls and order supplies for our clinic."

Emily's work ethic and infectious energy has led to a recent nomination in which her coworkers established another description for her: Peak Performer.

Each Peak Performer nomination celebrates an individual who represents the spirit of Cook Children's commitment to quality, safety and customer service.

"She has an infectious energy and an uplifting attitude," says one nomination. "She is helpful to all staff members and ensures all patients are taken care of."

Another nomination highlights Emily's willingness to help wherever she is needed.

"Emily is a superstar," the submission says. "She has really become a valuable team member and excellent role model."

vFor Emily, being named a Peak Performer makes her feel appreciated. "Since I have been at this Burleson clinic, I have felt at home," she says. "The people I work with allow me to reach my potential and let me rise to my abilities."

vAs an LVN, Emily functions in collaborative practice with physicians and nurse practitioners in a clinic setting. She provides nursing care to patients and families according to their identified needs and proves the art of caring makes a difference in their lives, as well as the communities she serves.

"Not all children are loved and treated the way you want or expect them to be treated," she says. "I have learned it is important to love on them as much as possible in the moments I have them."
