Students come to Cook Children's for their neonatal and pediatric clinical practice, gaining bedside experience in general, emergency, acute, and critical respiratory care. In addition to clinical rotations, students receive pediatric-specific training and clinical simulation experience in order to enhance their clinical knowledge.
Child Life student opportunities
The Child Life program at Cook Children's supports unique opportunities for child life students. Our Child Life students have the opportunity to work with kids and families to make their visit to the medical center easier and more comfortable. Child Life students will learn to recognize that hospitalized children still need opportunities to just be kids. They will develop an understanding of how to help children and families cope with a hospital experience and learn the skills to provide emotional and developmental support and the importance of giving honest information geared to the child's level of understanding. They will also learn the benefits of providing fun activities to patients and families.
