Residency and Education
Great opportunities begin with a great education. Our residency and education programs are among the best in pediatrics. An exciting future waits for you, so let's get started.
Nursing student opportunities
Cook Children's offers highly regarded pediatric nurse residency and pediatric nurse externship programs.
Nurse residents who participate in this competitive program will rotate through various pediatric specialty units in the hospital, gaining valuable knowledge and clinical experiences in pediatric nursing. The experiences during the pediatric nurse residency will culminate in eligibility for national certification as a pediatric nurse.
Our nursing externship program offers an exceptional pediatric learning opportunity to enhance the extern's role transition, reinforcement of skills, and development of new knowledge.
Pharmacy student opportunities
The Cook Children's post-graduate residency program offers residents an opportunity to develop clinical pharmacy practice skills in a challenging and progressive pediatric environment.
Respiratory student opportunities
Cook Children's provides clinical experience for students who are currently in a respiratory care program with an interest in working in pediatrics. Students come to Cook Children's for their neonatal and pediatric clinical practice, gaining bedside experience in general, emergency, acute, and critical respiratory care. In addition to clinical rotations, students receive pediatric-specific training and clinical simulation experience in order to enhance their clinical knowledge.
Child Life student opportunities
The Child Life program at Cook Children's supports unique opportunities for child life students. Our Child Life students have the opportunity to work with kids and families to make their visit to the medical center easier and more comfortable. Child Life students will learn to recognize that hospitalized children still need opportunities to just be kids. They will develop an understanding of how to help children and families cope with a hospital experience and learn the skills to provide emotional and developmental support and the importance of giving honest information geared to the child's level of understanding. They will also learn the benefits of providing fun activities to patients and families.
