Nephrology Specialty Programs
If your child needs specialized kidney care, you can trust that Cook Children's nephrology programs are among the best.
From therapies to transplant, our health professionals are committed to delivering superior quality. We focus on patient- and family-focused care for infants, children, teens and young adults. Our programs also provide access to the latest treatments, therapies and research.
-
We use this innovative therapy during severe illness experienced by our smallest children — infants and others under 22 pounds. Using a special filtration machine called the Aquadex SmartFlow®, we try to let the kidneys rest and recover.
-
Children with chronic kidney disease can't properly filter fluid and waste from their blood. While they wait for a new kidney through transplant, they need help from a dialysis machine to take over for their kidneys.
-
For children whose kidneys can no longer work properly, our transplant program is here to help. While dialysis can provide temporary kidney support, transplant can restore healthy kidney function. We offer both types of kidney transplants — from living donors (adults who volunteer a kidney) and from deceased donors. We have shorter wait times than expected for our region and we continually meet or exceed national standards. Most children we help have a healthy kidney a year or more after transplant.
