Bath time is focus time
Bath time is great for bonding with your child. Your presence also keeps them safe. You should supervise your child during bath time approximately until they finish preschool. It only takes an inch or two of water to drown—just enough to cover the nose and mouth. When your child's in the bathtub:
- pay attention
- always stay within reach of your child
- be alert
Plan and be present
Safety in the tub starts with planning. Gather all the bath supplies you'll need ahead of time so everything will be on hand. Avoid multitasking during your child's bath time. Don't allow older children to supervise a young child. If you have to attend to something in another room, pause bath time and take your child with you. When it's time to exit the tub, start draining the water before lifting your child out.
